Saffiyah has What’s Happening in Belize this Weekend

Thank Goodness it’s Friday … and Saffiyah has the blotter for weekend activities.

Hey it’s me, Saffiyah and this is what’s happening Belize.
I don’t know about you but I am real excited about the September Celebrations. I can just feel the September spirit in the air. One group that I know is already in the spirit is the Erotic mass band, who will be having their second fundraiser called “Fete till yuh wet”. This second fete promises to be bigger and better than their last one. They’ll even have a free chartered bus to transport people from Corozal and Orange walk, who want to join in on the fun. The party will run from nine p.m. to three a.m. at the Rogers Stadium. Tickets are five dollars in advance and ten dollars at the gate. So check out the Erotic mass band’s ‘Fete till yuh wet’ this Saturday night.
The people of Blackman Eddy would like to invite you to their Miss Blackman Eddy pageant on the thirtieth of August at eight p.m. The theme for the pageant is “Belize Today” there will be four contestants and a dance follows. Tickets are only four dollars in advance and three dollars at the door.
If you are someone who enjoys great art then you should go over to the Belize México cultural institute and check out the works of Rodolfo Morales called “La Magia de los Sueños” (The Magic of Dreams). Morales, who died in 2001, was one of Mexico’s greatest artist. He was well known for his surrealistic dream-like canvases and collages, often featured Mexican women in village settings. The exhibit will remain open until twelfth September.
Attention all canoe racers! The Lamanai Adventure challenge Canoe race is back and will be held on the fourteenth September in Orange Walk. The first prize is fifteen hundred dollars plus a mayor’s trophy, the second prize is nine hundred dollars, third prize is six hundred dollars. There will be ten station prizes of three hundred dollars each. The race runs from Indian Church near the Lamanai Mayan site to Banquitas in Orange walk town for a total of forty miles. The race allows three people per canoe and is open to professional level. If you are interested in participating, call Key-Di Castillo at 600-2719.
Before I go let me tell you about a back to school excursion to Melchor on the twenty-fourth August. The bus leaves the corner Victoria and Castle Street at five-fifteen and then Pound yard at six a.m. Adults are twenty-two dollars and kids between eleven to fifteen are eighteen dollars.
