Telemedia distributes 32 high school scholarships

Story PictureEvery year scholarships are given to deserving Belizeans countrywide, and one corporate citizen that has remained a top provider of those donations is Telemedia. Today, at the Radisson, thirty-one of thirty-two recipients were presented with certificates for Telemedia’s high school scholarships. C.E.O. Dean Boyce, flanked by the Minister of Education, Patrick Faber expressed their views on how the scholarships would have a positive impact on the young population.

Dean Boyce, Chairman, Telemedia Executive Committee
“Education is extremely important in the country. In terms of the development of the whole nation, if you consider that half of the population are under nineteen years, it’s extremely important that we are able to educate them to the best of their ability. Education is the number one priority as far as we are concerned in terms of our social programmes. We have restored the number back to seventy-five children that have been sponsored through high school and we take a close personal interest in all of those children. Cause these really are some very young, bright individuals who have demonstrated their abilities over the past few years and that’s why we’ve selected them.”

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“To ensure as young people that nobody, absolutely nobody, no matter who it is, never let them dissuade you from doing your best and from doing what it is you think you can achieve because as young people, we have to do more in this country. We have to take over the leadership reigns of this country. So it is up to you, the young people of this country, the young people who are doing positive things to shine and to never stop shining.”

Ansteny Bowen, Telemedia Scholarship Recipient
“Well, I feel very proud and very glad that I got this scholarship and it really helps me in achieving my goal.”

Duane Moody
“What is it that you expect to be when you grow up?”

Ansteny Bowen
“Well, I expect to be either an archaeologist or a scientist. That really is my goal.”

Stephanie Bowen, Mother of Scholarship Recipient
“Basically, I am the most ‘proudest’ mother on the earth right now. I am in cloud heaven.”

Duane Moody
“And what does this mean for your daughter?”

Stephanie Bowen
“It is something positive because I know that she will be taken care of. She wants her goal, she will be shooting for that goal and she will achieve that goal with a lot of hard work and perseverance.”

In June, seventeen Telemedia scholarship recipients from eleven high schools countrywide completed their secondary education and Telemedia expects to provide even more in the future.
