Canada donates vehicle to ITVET

Mechanic students of the Institute of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, today benefitted from a 1999 Ford Escort courtesy of the Canadian Government. The car will be used by the students as they put theory into practice. Throughout the week, the Canadian Government has been assisting communities with various projects around the Belize. At ITVET this morning, Major Claude Villeneuve, representative of the Canadian Government, spoke about his country’s role in the region.

Major Claude Villeneuve, Representative, Canadian Government
“Well this is part of the throne speech that Canada wants to get more involved in Central America. Well, just to let you know, we have done seven projects so far here and this is one of the projects we have done. It’s part of our training and part of our specialty as the civil military corporation team to get involve in the population and their needs and what we can do to improve and give them a better life. What’s gonna be the next time, we don’t know, but it’s gonna be part of the next rotation.”

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“This is a late model car that has been donated here. I’m sure it is a computerized car and the projects that we have running in our ITVETs include an automotive section in these institutions. These are the people whom we are training to be able to fix our late models car and so on. So this is a very good donation because it will then give our trainees something new to work with.”

Sheldon Samuels, Manager ITVET Belize
“I think you’ve said it right in terms of ITVET being extremely enthused in terms of the donation from the Canadian people. We do have big plans in terms of this new donation for our automotive programme.”
