Hoteliers release directory of hotels in Belize

And in other news in the tourism industry, the hoteliers in Belize have released its first Hotel Directory which serves as a comprehensive guide of accommodations in the tourism industry. The publication is an initiative of the Belize Hotel Association and is being made available to major tourist agents abroad in particular in the U.S. and European markets. President of the Belize Hotel Association, Kenrick Theus, spoke to News Five about the new Hotel Guide.

“What has happened over the last year or so is that Belize is trying to put itself in a new marketing effort, especially in Europe. The production of this magazine actually started in November when I was in the U.K. and we went into negotiations with Line Marine Publications and this company does magazines of the same type for a lot of Caribbean islands. They just recently took over Cancun. So Belize was attracted to us to get them to come and do a magazine, a directory for members of the Hotels Association. We only have a hundred and thirty-eight members but there are six hundred hotels in Belize so it’s truly not representative of all the hotels in Belize. Its only about maybe twenty percent thereabouts but that’s good at this point and what we’ll do is that we’ll try for next year to get more members involved.”

Theus said that it is intended for the directory to be updated annually. Four thousand copies are being distributed in the U.K. and ten thousand copies will be made available to agencies elsewhere.
