Man on bullet possession denied bail
A man who had a one millimeter calibre bullet in his pocket, was denied bail today in the Magistrate Court. Gion Bernard was charged for keeping the bullet and when he pleaded not guilty to the charge, Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie explained to him that she cannot offer bail because of the new legislation which came into effect on July twelfth. Defendants charged with keeping unlicensed firearm, magazines for unlicensed firearms and bullet proof vests will no longer get bail due to this new legislation. Police say that they were on a mobile patrol on Pickstock Street when they caught up with a man who tried to jump the fence behind the Pickstock Hutment. When the man was searched, police found the bullet in the right front pocket of his pants.
