Young man killed the day after he leaves prison

Story PictureIn the second killing, one man was shot dead and police have detained and charged two suspects. The incident occurred before noon on Saturday inside a car as the three occupants zipped past the Yabra Police Booth on Caesar Road, reportedly playing with the gun. The incident claimed the life of eighteen year old David Burgess, who had just been released from prison the day before when an attempted murder charge against him was dismissed. Burgess’ mother, Carlet Belisle says she does not believe for a second that it was an accident that claimed the life of her oldest child.

Carlet Belisle, Mother of David Burgess
“He lives with his dad. I saw him the Saturday. I came home and I washed and my sister-in-law came to me and tell me something is wrong with your son and I neva know it was so bad. When I went she called me and she tell me that they needed a family member at the hospital. When I went there at the hospital he was this machine and that’s when I know that it is so bad. I never saw him like that but it is so bad; a bullet to his head. We di yerr dat ih get shot right behind the long barracks by Yabra inna some garden. And when ih get shot deh instead ah dehn took him to di hospital dehn took him in Fabers Road by some house. I noh know if dehn leave him there or what but another person took him to the hospital. I noh know if dah di ambulance or another person in a car took him at di hospital.”

“Who took him behind Fabers Road?”

Carlet Belisle
“The same guys that shot him. Di guy was Pele, some Pele. And di mother for Pele is telling me that it’s an accident. Miss, I am a mother of five kids and no mother in the world could come and tell me that you son have a gunshot wound in the head and it’s an accident. I will not buy that.”

Marion Ali
“You know Pele?”

Carlet Belisle
“Yes.”

Marion Ali
“Was he …”

Carlet Belisle
“All ah dem were friends.”

Marion Ali
“They were friends?”

Carlet Belisle
“Yes, so I noh know.”

Marion Ali
“He come here?”

Carlet Belisle
“No, they don’t come here. They hang out, yes. Deh seh deh mi have wah gun di play wid di gun but I noh believe dat.”

Sr. Supt., David Henderson, O.C., Eastern Division
“We have quite a number of evidence but I will not get into the detail of it but I do know that the incident was from a group from within the Yarborough Area and all the persons involved are all friends.”

Carlet Belisle
“I expect well if ih get shot eena ih hand or ih foot den dah wah accident, I could accept dat but dis dah inna di middle ah ih head.”

Marion Ali
“Did she explain how this accident occurred?”

Carlet Belisle
“She seh she sit down and she hear something gone bam but she neva know dah somebody get shot. She seh she think da wah dynamite. And di next thing weh I noh understand, if he get shot at the long barracks, behind di long barracks, where there is a police station there, how come nobody hear anything? How come nobody saw anything?”

Police have now charged Mark Vernon and Alexander Underwood with the Murder of David Burgess.

In other news, Police are also now looking for one of their own, Police Constable, Dixon Polonio, in connection with another fatal shooting.
