Miss Guatemala is the new Reina de la Miss Costa Maya
Hey Guys, I’m Saffiyah and this is What’s Happening Belize?
I’m starting off this week with La Isla Bonita, San Pedro. They’ve been having activities all week to celebrate their Costa Maya International Festival. On Tuesday, they held ‘La Reina Fido’s Bikini competition 2008’ won by Miss Costa Rica, Maria Elena Quesada. Thursday was when the competition really heated up when the actual La Reina de la Costa Maya pageant was held. The pageant featured contestants from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Costa Rica and of course Belize.
The pageant also featured performances by San Pedro Dance Company and Melonie Gillett, a name you might remember from ultimate KTV.

The fun doesn’t end there. The Costa Maya festival continues all weekend. Friday is the opening Gala and mega concert featuring Supa G and the Honduran group, Klan Destinos. Saturday is Noche International with performances by Fabiola Rodas from Guatemala and Grupo Bryndis from Mexico. Sunday will definitely be a more family night featuring a performance by the comedian Chupito. All weekend there will be rides and games, and a variety of food and drinks on sale. There’s always something to do in San Pedro.
In San Ignacio a photography exhibition is being held called “Belize Through the Lens” by Galen University Students. The pictures cover a range of subjects from portraits to abstract, landscapes and photojournalism. The exhibition is being held in the Manzanero Building in San Ignacio.
Before I go let me remind you of ‘Me and Mi Genie’ a hilarious Rotary Production happening this weekend at the Bliss Institute of creative arts. This comedy and musical has been put together as a fundraiser for their ‘Gift of Life’ program. The show times are Friday and Saturday eight and nine and Sunday at six. Tickets are fifteen dollars general, thirty dollars reserved, and fifty dollars premium.
Well I have to go now, have a great weekend! Bye.
