News Five wins top regional awards
News Five has taken three of the top prizes in the 2007 Caribbean Broadcasting Awards. Reporter Marion Ali and cameraman Rick Romero were cited for producing the region’s Best News Feature for their story “March Against Violence” which aired in October of last year. Winning the award for Best Investigative Reporting as well as Best Story on the Environment was the team of reporter Stewart Krohn and cameraman George Tillett for their coverage of questionable dredging in the Pelican Cayes World Heritage Site. That story aired in December. The Caribbean Broadcasting Awards are bestowed annually from among entries submitted by over thirty television and radio stations across the region, all members of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union. Since the programme was initiated over a decade ago, Channel Five has won more awards for journalism than any other broadcaster in the region.
