Twenty-two year old shot dead off his bike
Wednesday night was deadly. A third victim was murdered as he rode his bicycle on Holy Emmanuel Street. For the family of twenty-three year old Kenton Lewis, it is difficult to understand what led to his murder, but they say they hold no animosity towards his killer.

“One Kenton Lewis of a Mahogany Street Extension was seen with a gunshot wound to the left side of the abdomen, the left side of the shoulder and back. Investigations into this matter revealed that he was riding his bicycle on Holy Emmanuel Street from the direction of Cordel Hyde Housing Site towards Lacroix Street when he was followed by two male persons. One of the male people then pulled out a handgun and fired about four shots towards Kenton Lewis which caused the fatal injuries to him. He was also pronounced dead on arrival. That matter is still pending investigations. At this time we are unable to say whether we have any connection between the two murders, between Lewis and Westby.”

“Me and his mother were together at church. We went to a man and women’s conference and on our way home we got the news that a “friend” got shot. We started praying for the friend. We didn’t know that he died so we were walking and we were lifting him in prayer. I reached home and I was sitting at my table looking at my son cause it’s his friend too and he was grieving Travis, the other young man that got shot earlier. I was just looking at my son because he’s grieving for his friend, not knowing that in an hour or less than an hour I would get a phone call that my nephew got shot. We don’t have to go for any revenge or anything because the God we serve, he is able to do all things and he’s forgiving too because we serve a mighty God. And if we serve God we have to have a forgiving heart.”

“We will be out there, we will do whatsoever enforcement we need to do and we will investigate and we will bring whosoever needs to be brought to justice, they will be brought to justice. From the areas that we have visited, or that I have visited, I know that the people in those areas are very receptive and I believe at the end of the day we will get through and they will hear our message and we will get some rest within the city.”
Police could not definitively say whether the two fatal shootings were related to each other or any other previous shooting. But the heads of the Belize City units of the Department say they are doing all they can to curb the current problems with gun warfare.
