Brawl ends in murder of Leslie Gentle
The month of July ends with a record breaking number of murders in one night. Police have been unable to solve the four murders of the weekend and now they have their hands full with Wednesday night’s triple murders. The first murder evolved out of a stabbing between two men, twenty-five year old Robert Taylor and twenty-six year old Leslie “Footy” Gentle. That brawl later turned into a stabbing near the Pound Yard Bridge in which both men were injured, Gentle fatally. His father, Leslie Gentle Senior, told News Five what he knew of his son’s death.

“He’s the conductor on the bus. So the other guy that stole two cellular phone from a lady on the bus. He told the guy about it and the guy was accusing him that he stole it instead of him. And then the guy wanted to fight and my son punched him down. And then he told my son that I’m coming back. But my son was working on the bus and something he was doing bending down. He know the guy was coming with a knife. Then the guy came behind him and struck him in the side with a knife and then ih start stabbing him up.”

“Eyewitness told me that the guy went for a knife. I don’t know how my son got any knife. But they told me the guy went for a knife. He told my son I’m coming back and he went for the knife and he came back. My son was doing something with a knife on the bus by Pound Yard Bridge.”

“Correct, then ih guy went for the knife and my son was still doing what he had to do with his little knife or whatever when the guy stab him and he try to fight again but he couldn’t help himself.”

“Taylor was riding a bicycle on the Cemetery Road between Magazine Road and West Collet Canal. When passing by the Esso Gas Station Gentle, who was riding on a bus, jumped off the bus and started to beat Taylor. Taylor shortly after managed to escape and minutes later returned with a kitchen knife where both had another altercation and the wounds were inflicted. Gentle was undergoing surgery and at about seven fifteen p.m. he succumbed to his injuries at the said hospital. That investigation is still continued, we have one person in custody presently undergoing investigations.”
Gentle was charged jointly with L’Tanya Gonguez in Dangriga for the 2002 murder of businessman, Wen Dong Liu. Darren Chiu was charged with Abetment to Commit Murder in connection with that incident. Wen was shot to death during an attempted robbery.
