Transparency Intl Corruption report ranks Belize at 111

Transparency International, the international organization that champions honesty and shames countries for being dishonest has released its Global Corruption Report for 2009 called Corruption and the Private Sector. According to the report, Belize is ranked at one hundred and eleven on the list of one hundred and eighty countries. And on a scale where ten is clean and zero is considered highly corrupt, Belize is given a scathing score of two point nine.
Compared with the results of 2008’s Global Corruption Report that focused on Corruption in the Water Sector, Belize’s position has become worse as it was ranked at ninety nine then and with a score of three. Well don’t feel bad for Belize just yet, the Jewel did have a better ranking than Honduras, Nigeria, Somalia and Venezuela. Guatemala fared off better with a rank of ninety eight and a corruption score of three point one. The island of St. Lucia has a lot to celebrate with a clean score of seven point one. According to the Global Corruption Report 2009, the private sector, just as governments, should follow the principles of transparency and accountability.
