Shooting in the city leaves one badly injured

For the third time this week gun violence exploded in the southside of Belize City. At around seven last night, nineteen year old Kenroy Humes, also known as “Beelie” was hanging out with friends at the residence of Darren Banks on Oleander Street when the shots rang out. Humes, who was inside the yard, was hit in the buttocks and right hand. The gunman was reportedly among a group of young men who rode past the residence from the direction of Zacaranda Street and fired several shots at Humes. News Five’s Marion Ali was on the scene shortly after the shooting and caught up with Darren Banks’ mother and sister at the K.H.M.H. where Humes was undergoing urgent treatment.

All I do dash gone down pan di floor, mi sister she run by di door, mi daughter run by di door and dehn di seh Beelie get shot. So when I hear Beelie get shot, I noh know weh Beelie mi deh when I hear ih mi deh back ah di house.”

“No, friends to my son. Dehn dah friends to my son.”

“You know if he was coming to hail your son, if he was coming to …?”

“Usually dehn come there to visit my son because they are his friends.”

“You feel that’s what he was doing?”

“Yeah, dehn all was talking outside. All ah dehn was talking outside when dat happen. I mi di bake and when dat happen all ah we rush but wi neva did si dah who. All dehn seh dat some boys rush gone through the other street deh fi go back by the WASA building deh. Dehn run gone dat way.”

“More than one time and then yesterday one ah my other son dehn threaten too dat dehn wah kill ah if deh noh get Darren. Yoh understand because dehn want kill my other son, Jessim Gladden, dehn threaten fi kill him too. All I want dehn do dah left my son lone yoh understand me? And I di pray fi mek God help me wid dehn because ih really hard when yoh lose wah son. I lose one already by gun. Dehn shot already when ih mi nineteen years old and dat mi hurt but I noh seh nothing. I leave everything in the hands ah God.”

“Dehn just phone me and tell me deh hold my son and all ah di boy dehn weh keep dah di yard because dehn seh dehn noh want dehn retaliate back. So dehn ker all ah dehn and lock dehn up yoh understand mi? Dehn thing deh wrong weh police di do. Go fi di one dehn eh come deh come shoot. Why dehn have to do dat? Dat show dehn noh like we none at all. Dehn thing deh very wrong. Dehn noh fi do dat.”

Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the shooting, but are looking for a suspect.
