Get in harmony with the Earth on the Locomotive of Freedom
Forward the Revolution; that’s a group of four free spirited individuals who have embarked on a journey with a purpose. Raphael Fellmer, Benjamin Lesage, Camille Goguey and Nieves Palmer left The Hague on January nineteenth and have travelled by land and sea for months with little supplies and a strong faith in humanity. They are on their way to Mexico for the upcoming Climate Change Summit in Cancun to send a message that small individual changes can go a long way to save the earth. The group’s slogan is “In Harmony with the Earth” and they are on a mission to make a difference by sharing their experience of living life without money. The voyage, which has been dubbed “The Locomotive of Freedom” has brought the travelers to Belize and they came to Channel Five’s studios to talk about the tour.

“This idea started when we were in Holland. We were with my friend Raphael and other friends of ours. We were still studying and then we created an NGO because we wanted to make a change in the world and we discovered that it’s not so hard, you just have to want it and we were doing some little works and weekends with people, students and try to make them more aware about the world, about the nature and suddenly we thought that we could do something a bit bigger. We could do a trip from Holland to Mexico, the most sustainable way possible with the idea to show that everything is possible if you really believe in it and especially everything is possible to make a change in this world. Like if you want to see the world go around better that you can do it yourself. So we wanted to show that it’s possible to travel more in harmony with the nature and with the people.”

“We are on the road for ten months and a little bit now. We have travelled—we started in the Netherlands and we travelled all over Europe to Morocco Africa. From there it was on boat to the Canary Islands and we passed the whole Atlantic Ocean with a sailing boat to Brazil and from Brazil we went all the way up to Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia and finally we got another boat to Panama and then Panama, we hit the road again all the way to Central America until we got since three days here to Belize and we’re on our way to Cancun to the Climate Change summit because we’ve been doing this in the most sustainable way possible, which means we don’t take any airplanes we just take busses, ferries, trucks, whatever kind of vehicle that is going where we’re going to minimize our carbon foot print and we sleep wherever the night comes.”

“The main message is everything is possible and we are the change. We, you, you; we are all the change we want to see in the world. And sometimes it’s really tiny actions but we always have to think that everything we do has a connection. We like the four Rs, which are Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”
