Teen beaten up and shot in Belize City

A teenager has been shot. Fourteen year old Glenford Martinez of four and a half miles Western Highway reported that on Thursday night he was talking to a friend on the basketball court on Levi Slusher Street in Belize City when he was accosted by Keith Middleton. Martinez says Middleton beat him up and demanded that he leave the area. But Martinez didn’t leave and says Middleton came back a few minutes later accompanied by another male who also threatened to beat him up. The young man says as he was leaving he heard an unidentified third person telling Middleton to (quote) “take out the thing”. At least three shots were fired, hitting Martinez on the right lower buttocks. Police are looking for the gunmen.

Meanwhile, a woman in the Corozal District is recovering from a domestic squabble with her common-law-husband. The woman, Nurvi Castaneda, a thirty-six year old secretary from San Joaquin claims that on Wednesday night, an inebriated and hungry Wilbert Pol cursed her when she told him there was no food in the house. The woman locked herself in her bedroom, but says Pol broke down the door with a hammer. Castaneda has sought protection from the court. Pol on the other hand has been charged with Using Insulting Words.
