Police charged one, seek another for burglary
In an update to a story carried earlier this week, twenty-five year old Jermaine Jex, one of two men who stomped open a woman’s apartment door was charged with Burglary when he appeared today in Magistrates’ Court. Jex at first pleaded guilty to the charge, but Magistrate Sharon Frazer entered a plea of not guilty when Jex told her he did not commit the offence. He was offered bail of five thousand dollars and ordered to return to court on August twenty-first.
The occupant of the apartment, thirty year old fruit vendor, Maria Teresa Lara, reported to the police that on Wednesday three men came to her East Collet Canal address. She said two of them entered the yard, forced open her door and entered her premises. The men were apparently looking for her common-law-husband and when they didn’t find him, left. Outside they were joined by a third person, a man identified only as Fay. All three got into a white vehicle and drove away. Fay is the owner of a supermarket at Mile eight on the Western Highway and Jex is one of his employees. The second suspect, Calvin Bailey, is still at large and it is believed that the beef is over a dispute with the Bailey family.
