New Honorary Consul named for Quintana Roo
And while Belizeans have been slapped with criminal charges in neighbouring Chetumal, businessman Rafael Chavez will no longer be around to represent their interests. This morning Rafael Chavez’s appointment as Belize’s honorary consul was terminated by the Barrow administration. His marching orders were to close down the Consulate by the end of the working day. It is reported that businessman Jorge Valencia has been tipped as the new honorary consul and until his appointment is approved by the Mexican government, which can take years, matters relating to Belizeans in trouble across the border will be directed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
