Telemedia makes second income tax payment
Belize Telemedia Limited confirmed that it made payment today of two point three million dollars in respect of business taxes that the Government claims is owed by Telemedia but according to the company, the taxes are covered under an Accommodation Agreement with the past administration.
On June twenty-fourth, the Revenue Magistrate Ed Usher ordered that four point six million dollars in taxes be paid in two equal installments of two point three million, the first on July first and the second on July eighth. When the first amount was not met last Friday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of the B.T.L. C.E.O., Dean Boyce but that was subsequently called off when the first payment was made to government. Yesterday Justice Samuel Awich, denied an injunction by Telemedia to restrain Magistrate Usher from issuing another arrest warrant on B.T.L.’s C.E.O. Dean Boyce in respect of the second installment.
B.T.L. has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a declaration that the order made by Magistrate Usher should be suspended due to a pending appeal before the Supreme Court and that upon appeal to a higher court an order of the lower court should be suspended. This matter will be heard tomorrow before Justice Awich.
