Abusive police officer removed from the force
It’s still early in the celebration of Police week, and the top brass of the force are not wasting opportunity to clean up the image of the force often battered by their own actions. A release from the Police Press Office has confirmed that one of their officers has been dismissed: he is Assistant Superintendent Humberto Patt. On Friday the Security Services Commission held a meeting to deal with the allegation against ASP Patt made by twenty-four year old Ryan Requeña. According to Requeña, on the night of December thirty-first 2007, he was detained at the San Pedro police station and beaten by Patt, who was the then Officer in Charge, and five other officers. After hearing the matter, the commission concluded that ASP Patt has full knowledge of the incident, that his actions were not befitting an officer in charge, and that he acted in contravention of Public Service regulations and the Services Commission Regulations. The body then recommended that Patt, who had been on suspension since the incident, be dismissed effective Monday, July seventh. In the release, the Police Commissioner assured the public that police officers found guilty of betraying the public’s trust will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
