Thieves make off with $6,000 in cash from Belize City man
Tonight police are investigating an armed robbery that has deprived a Belize City resident of more than six thousand dollars in cash. According to twenty-two year old Armick Escobar and twenty-three year old Dario Cruickshank, they along with two friends were in front of Meg’s Body Shop on South Creek around five-thirty on Friday when two masked men armed with handguns rode up to them and demanded their money and valuables. Escobar tried to run away but tripped and fell. The victim says one of his attackers then stood over him, hit him in the back of the head with the gun and took away the six thousand five hundred dollars cash he had in his pant’s pocket. The thief also made off with Escobar’s I-phone, two other cell phones and two pieces of jewellery. The thieves then fled the scene.
Meanwhile, a woman walking on Freedom Street has also reported being jacked. According to forty-seven year old Karen Froyce, around six on Friday evening she was walking alone when a man pointed an object at her shoulder and demanded her purse. Froyce tried to put up a fight but she got scared and handed over the bag, two cell phones and four hundred and forty bucks. Up to news time police had not made any arrests in either case.
