Belizean Jaguars to face off with Mexican powerhouse Sat. night
Less than a week ago the hearts of every red blooded Belizean swelled with pride as the national football team defended our honour against Mexico’s best in World Cup action. On Saturday night, the Jaguars will go head to head with our northern neighbours on their home turf. The match will take place in Monterrey, Mexico at the Estadio Universitario de Nuevo Leon Monterrey. Channel Five’s coverage begins at seven forty-five with veteran sportscaster James Adderley and former footballer Leonard Ysaguirre, who will be calling the play by play action. Despite a commanding defence in the U.S., Belize was defeated 2-nil. The first goal came from Carlos Vela in the sixty-fifth minute, while former European player Jared Borgetti scored on a penalty kick during stoppage time. The matches are qualifiers for the World Cup 2010 and if Belize wants to advance to the next round, our boys would have to beat the Mexican team by at least three goals.
