Two kids and one adult shot on Mahogany Street
While firemen had put out the blaze, police this afternoon were looking for the shooter or shooters who opened fire on busy Mahogany Street in the Lake Independence area. Classes had just been dismissed and two children and a man were injured in the shooting shortly before four this evening. The two children, nine year old Alex Lamb, a standard three student, and twelve year old Rosalyn Ranguy, a standard five student, who were walking home together when they were shot, both in the feet. The man, twenty four year old Brandon Smith, was shot to his right shoulder. This blood-stained tennis shoe with a bullet hole on the top shows where Alex Lamb suffered his injury. Both he and Ranguy are undergoing x-rays at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for an assessment of where the bullets caused damage.
Roselda Sinclair, Principal, St. Martin de Porres
“They were walking home and I get to understand that the two young men were shooting at some young man Smith and while they were shooting at him they missed and caught the children. It really bothers me that our children are no longer safe to walk the street.”
Marion Ali
“And this is just after school hours.”

“Just after school hours.”
Police believe that the shooting was in retaliation for the murder in 2007 of Ludrick Beeks. Smith and twenty one year old Leon Gray were recently acquitted of Beeks’ murder.
