Infant dies in Northern Highway collision

A road mishap in Corozal has resulted in the death of an infant. Police reports are that around four forty-five on Tuesday afternoon, fifty-four year old Gloria Hall was driving a van from the Santa Elena border towards Corozal when at the same time twenty-three year old truck driver Marcelo Villamil was towing a forty-foot container towards the customs checkpoint. Apparently, Hall failed to stop at a junction leading to the highway, causing Villamil to collide into her vehicle. As a result of the impact, four month old Shawmar Hall received severe injuries to the head and body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Northern Regional Hospital. The other passengers in the van: Michelle Hall, Shawmar’s mother, Anabel Vivas, and Maritza Vivas were treated for minor cuts and bruises and released. Hall, however, suffered more severe injuries to her head and chest and remains admitted to ward. As a formality, Villamil has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
