Shoplifter receives 3 years for two crimes
Today a shoplifter received no mercy from a Belize City magistrate and was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing two cans of Red Bull. On Monday, fifty-one year old Danny Parham was caught on camera taking the energy drinks from Bottom Dollar Store on North Front Street. But Magistrate Roberto Ordonez imposed the stiff sentence for the theft because less than a month ago, on May twenty-third, Parham appeared before him charged with stealing a screwdriver from Brodies. It was Parham’s first conviction so Ordonez fined him a thousand dollars after he promised not to steal again. But in addition to breaking his vow, Parham also defaulted on his fine. As a result, he will serve an additional year in prison, for a total of three years at Hattieville.
