Scotiabank, P.U.P. donate cash to relief efforts
While government and private relief agencies work to repair damaged lives and infrastructure, the money to make that rebuilding possible has to come from somewhere. On Tuesday Scotiabank announced a contribution of twenty-five thousand dollars toward the relief effort in the south. According to a release from the bank, the funds are earmarked for the repair and replacement of houses and possessions damaged or destroyed by Tropical Storm Arthur.
Another pledge of financial support has come from the Opposition side of the National Assembly. According to a release from the Peoples’ United Party, the P.U.P. members of the House and Senate will donate ten thousand dollars from their June salaries to the Belize Red Cross. At the same time the P.U.P. is also calling on the Prime Minister to appoint a Commission of Inquiry into what they call “the apparent mismanagement of the response to this natural disaster”.
