Bus operators can deal with bridge situation

Story PictureBelizeans and visitors who must travel from North to South may need to exercise some patience … but when the floodwaters recede at Kendal the bus companies are ready to swing into action. All they ask is for passengers to take a little boat ride. Operations Manager for National Transport, Philip Jones, says it’s the only option until the bridge is rebuilt.

Philip Jones, Operations Mgr., Nat’l Transport Service Ltd.
“The water would need to recede to a safe level because the area has strong current and from there the only option will be to cross passengers by boat from one side to the next end. We have the manpower and equipment to do that as soon as they give us the go ahead. We have equipments on both sides that are ready to go. We’re just waiting until they say go and we’ll continue with that but we have the capacity to do so. It’s not a problem just that we need the clearance to proceed. It will operate as a normal schedule. For instance, if you’re a three thirty from P.G. to Belize City, when you arrive at the bridge location there will be a connection bus on the other side waiting.”

Both Jones and James Bus Line Manager, Joan Williams, say while they don’t plan to charge any extra for the run, the cost of the boat ferry will have to be borne by passengers.
