Thieves jack $15,000 in cash/goods from music store

If you’re currently shopping around for a cell phone or camera, stay clear of those deals that seem too good to be true. In the early morning hours of Tuesday thieves hit a downtown electronics and music store and left with more than fifteen thousand dollars in cash and goods. According to Assistant Manager of Teddy’s Music Store, Joel Gutierrez, around five on Tuesday morning he got a phone call that burglars had broken into the King Street establishment.

“The padlocks, they were not touched, they were not disturbed, only the shutters. What they did was they pried the shutter at the middle and they lift it up to a certain distance so someone can easily slide in and that’s how they got everything out. The first thing I noted is that the shutter was disturbed and as I tried to open the door, then someone came across and said they saw a jack that was pried in the shutter. That person called the C.I.B. office and the C.I.B. came around five thirty-five this morning and they moved the jack. This person was just passing by and saw the place open that Tuesday morning so he called the C.I.B. and they came to check the place.”

“When you check your stock what did you find missing?”

“We find missing all of the cell phones as you may see and some of the cameras that were there as well and the cash register, that was gone as well.”

“This amounts to how much in terms of money?”

Joel Gutierrez
“Well the cell phones alone are about eleven thousand dollars.”

“That’s a lot of cell phones.”

Joel Gutierrez
“Yes, a lot of cell phones, brand new cell phones and there was a disclosed amount of money, approximately three thousand to two thousand five hundred dollars in cash that they took with them as well. It might be someone that knew the place already, maybe it could be even one of the customers, maybe he used to come in everyday. You never know.”

“Any thoughts to enhance your security features, maybe putting in an alarm or camera?”

Joel Gutierrez
“Oh yeah, that’s in process. We’re working on an alarm system right now and securing the building a little more.”

Although the establishment also retails D.V.D and C.D. players, Gutierrez says none of those items were stolen. Investigators have no suspects at this time but reminds the public that buying stolen goods is a criminal offence.
