Insurance companies unite to promote professional training

Story PictureAs I speak, insurance companies and agents are gathering at the Belize Biltmore Plaza. The occasion is the launch of their newest body, The Insurance Institute of Belize. This afternoon Chair of the institute’s Steering Committee, Sandra McKay, told News Five why it’s important.

Sandra McKay, Chair, IIBZ Steering Committee
“We already have an Organization of Insurance Companies, which is ORINCO, and we also have BELIFA, the Belize Association of Life Insurance and Financial Advisors. BELIFA functions primarily to educate the life insurance agents and ORINCO is not an educational organisation. So where the institute comes in is as a central educational organisation to educate the entire insurance industry, be it life, health, motor, or general insurance companies.”

Kendra Griffith
“What type of education do insurers need?”

Sandra McKay
“Professional development. We will really function in two primary ways, one is to provide licensing examinations for new persons wanting to enter the insurance industry, and secondly, we will be providing professional development examinations for persons already in the industry but who might desire to take their operation to the next level, who want to be knowledgeable and have the expertise to deal with their clients more efficiently and effectively.”
