Belize City Pastor plans free Mother’s Day dinner
Organisations like the Red Cross count on volunteers and financial contributions from the business community and the public. But with everyone complaining about the high cost of living these days, resources are stretched thin. But since last September, one Belize City woman has been quietly investing in the children of her neighbourhood. Gospel Minister Suzette Massiah converted a portion of her home to accommodate a feeding program as well as provide computer access and religious lessons. This weekend Massiah has planned a special event for Mother’s Day. Today we caught up with the good Samaritan at Merirh’s Feeding Place at number six Victoria Street in Belize City.
Suzette Massiah, Gospel Minister, Merirh’s Feeding Place
“I’m still doing it myself and friends and my customers have donated stuff to feed the kids, which I do daily from Monday to Friday. They get breakfast before they go to school in the morning time between seven to seven thirty in the morning. What I do, I have two of the mothers that come in. One of them would come in and make johnny cakes or powder buns for the kids and I would get up like five in the morning and I would give them johnny cake with cheese or whatever, a breakfast meal along with hot chocolate they get that every morning along with cereal. And the name of the breakfast, I call it Merirh’s Food for Thought Children’s Club. That’s what I call it because you need food to think. And amazingly since the kids have been coming here in the morning time they have told me that their grades have elevated. A lot of the children around Victoria Street are underprivileged and I plan, on Sunday, to have an event for the underprivileged mothers, a mother’s day special for them.”

“Can you tell us what will happen?”
Suzette Massiah
“Well I know it will be life-changing for them and the kids will be performing and be doing skits and different things. So I know the mothers will be amazed to see the things that their kids are doing because here in Merirh’s they learn biblical values even in themselves.”
If you would like to assist Suzette Massiah’s feeding program, you can visit her at six Victoria Street or call her at 605-8357 or 203-4252. Sunday’s event begins at three-thirty in the afternoon and goes on until around six pm.
