Ladyville homeowner sends burglar to morgue
According to police reports, it was a classic case of self defense. A man returns to his house late at night, only to find a burglar who attacks him. Following a struggle, the legally armed homeowner shoots his assailant dead. These may be the bare facts but behind every death is a personal tragedy. News Five’s Marion Ali reports.

The victim is again another young black man, but the explanation behind his killing is not the regular gang related revenge type shooting. Instead, police say a Ladyville homeowner was defending his life and property on Marage Road, when he shot twenty-five year old Darrel Hyde. The news was the last thing Hyde’s family expected, because while he has been in trouble before, it was never for stealing.
Patricia Seguro, Mother of Deceased
“Ih mi gaan da jail but noh fi teef, noh fi teef. Ih spen five and a half months bah bak deh caz ih gaan dah rehab centa ahn all ah dat. Ahn ih jus come out laas yaa. The homeowner, fifty-nine year old Charles McIntosh declined to speak to us, but according to a statement he gave police, his wife, Kimberly Myles, called him sometime after ten Tuesday night to say someone was trying to break into their house. Seguro explained how she found out her son died.
Patricia Seguro
“She call Charlie weh da ih gentleman ahn she tell Charlie dat somebody deh pan di housetop. I noh even know how di house look, wich pah di house deh, nothing. Police later found the badly wounded Hyde about two hundred and fifty yards away from the house lying on the feeder road. Seguro says while McIntosh had a right to defend himself, she is upset at the number of times he shot her son and that he was not even detained pending the investigation.

Clement Palacio, Police Press Officer
“He has not been given any special privilege and clearly because of the nature of the incident and I’m certain that many people are going to be questioning why is it that he will even be charged. So pending investigations I think it will be presumptuous of us to actually pre-empt what should be done. The investigations are ongoing. The circumstances speak for its self and clearly that has been the discretion of the Police Department.”
Meanwhile, Pope, who is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow to have Hyde’s twins, says it will be rough.
Hertha Pope
“Now my kids wah grow up without wah father becaz wah man have to defend ih property ahn ih place but dah di way how ih do it. to me dat da cold blooded murder. Police say Hyde was wanted for an aggravated assault he committed in Burrell Boom against a relative a week ago. Police say Hyde and Myles are distant relatives and could not offer a reason why he went to the home. This is not the first or even second time Charles McIntosh has shot at intruders. In 2004 he wounded two trespassers on his shrimp farm. Charges of Aggravated Assault against him were dismissed when two of the men he shot failed to show up as witnesses. In 2005 McIntosh was jacked as he arrived home by two men with a sawed off shotgun but he got the drop on them, leaving one man with bullets in his chest and shoulder.
