Chess Olympiad set for Saturday at U.B. gym
Bright and early on Saturday morning chess players and fans from across the country will gather in Belmopan to participate in the first annual Belize Chess Olympiad. According to organizer Ian Anderson, the event is being coordinated through the Belize National Youth Chess Foundation to highlight the game as a fun and intellectually stimulating activity. More than one hundred and forty boys and girls will play in teams of four with the competition starting at eight in the morning at the University of Belize Gym in Belmopan. Prizes will include recognition of the best individual player, the top team and a sportsmanship award. The best three teams and individual players will also be invited to attend a five day chess camp at the Sibun Jungle Lodge in August.
