K.H.M.H. C.E.O. claims victimization by new boss
He’s been at the helm of the country’s flagship hospital for the past eight years, but tonight Dr. Alvaro Rosado says he’s been wrongfully terminated as Chief Executive Officer of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. According to Rosado, in mid-January, he signed a one year renewal contract with then board chairman Israel “Pie” Marin to continue as C.E.O. effective April first 2008. But the administrator says following general elections in February, he was placed on compulsory vacation leave. He was paid for March but Rosado says when he went to collect April’s pay cheque, his account was empty and he has taken that to mean he’s been fired. This morning Rosado told us that he’s being victimized by the new bosses at the K.H.M.H.
Alvaro Rosado, Former C.E.O., K.H.M.H.
”I think it’s more standing up for principles. The money is not bad either, let’s get that straight. I’m out of a job, I didn’t have any chance to plan and I could have been looking for another job and that’s why they give you three months or whatever it is. So I could have been looking for another job but it’s really the principle of the thing. I sit down at times and wonder what happens to the person that does not have the recourses, the resources, the friends, the contacts that I had. The poor people who are being fired out there for no reason at all and being sent home for no reason and they don’t have any way of fighting this back. I am standing up for principle, and my attorney has indicated to them long before it came to this. And I am not one to air this kind of thing publicly, I am not here to bash the government, I don’t think it’s a political decision as such, I think it is a decision of the persons who were placed in a position of authority—in this case, the chairman of the K.H.M.H. authority. So I’m not here to say it’s a political thing that was done but whoever is doing it, it’s wrong. There’s a K.H.M.H. authority act which very clearly outlines the powers of the different entities. The chairman of the board is my boss and the board sets out policies. They set out policies and as the C.E.O., I carry out the policies. The day to day decisions are my decisions, not the board’s decision. Unfortunately, the chairman either does not agree with that or does not understand that and when they took over he started doing the day to day management of the hospital, which I objected to and that’s where we are. I would like to say that K.H.M.H. has my full support. It’s an institution that is dear to me and I certainly hope that it will continue to move from strength to strength.”
And according to Rosado, the matter will end up in court if the board of the K.H.M.H. cannot sit down with his attorney to work out the terms of his termination. Acting C.E.O. Laurel Grant declined comment citing the likelihood that Rosado’s case will become a legal matter. Via telephone this evening K.H.M.H. board Chairman Dr. Rick Fabro maintained that Rosado has not been fired but is on vacation leave. Fabro told us Rosado is not on the payroll anymore because the contract the C.E.O. signed with the K.H.M.H. in January, a month before the elections, is now the subject of a legal review.
