Road rage between drivers ends in Aggravated Assault arrest
Road rage seems to have fuelled an argument between two motorists and has landed one of them behind bars. Police reports are that around seven on Thursday morning, taxi driver Cecil Gill and Belize City businessman Bert Vasquez Haylock got into a fight on Vernon Street. After a few choice words between the two, Gill says he drove away but on Logwood Street he saw Vasquez’s car following him. According to the taxi driver, Vasquez got out of the car armed with a handgun and pointed the weapon at him. Gill says in self defence he got out of his van, picked up a stick from the drain and prepared for the worse. But the other driver backed down, reversed his car and left the area. The police responded to the report of a gun and detained both drivers for questioning. Those investigations have led police to arrest and charge twenty-four year old Bert Haylock Vasquez with Aggravated Assault with a Gun. He was denied bail and has been remanded to Hattieville Prison until June second. But before Vasquez was sent west with the other prisoners, he was also slapped with two counts of Obtaining Property by Deception. Those offences follow a report by the proprietors of 88 Shopping Centre that he cashed a cheque at the grocery store which later bounced.
