Stolen truck found abandoned in Belmopan
A container truck reported stolen late Monday night has been recovered in Belmopan. According to police reports, the forty-foot container truck had been emptied of its cargo and abandoned on George Price Boulevard. The vehicle was stolen after a bizarre series of events on Monday night. According to the twenty-one year old driver Edson Moh, after loading the truck at the Belize City Port he headed south towards Dangriga. But after he left the city Moh says he got a phonecall from someone instructing him to use the Coastal Road. He did so but a mile along the dusty highway, seven armed men in three vehicles held him up and then proceeded to steal the rig and its contents. News Five has learnt that the investigation, while a police matter, also involves the Customs Department. We were unable to reach anyone there for comment and no one in the police department could even tell us exactly what type of cargo was loaded in the truck. The owner of the vehicle is Moises Manzur, a freight operator based in Orange Walk. In speaking with News Five this afternoon, Manzur declined comment.
