Separate traffic accidents leave one man dead, child injured
A traffic accident on the Western Highway has claimed yet another life. According to police, around four on Thursday morning they responded to reports that a car had turned over near the Kontiki Gas Station just outside San Ignacio.
When cops arrived they found a badly damaged Mazda car and the body of a man lying about eight feet away from the vehicle. The victim was rushed to the San Ignacio hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. The deceased has been identified as twenty-eight-year old Silvio Torund, a football player from Costa Rica who had been living in the Hills of Promise area in Benque Viejo. Investigations into the cause of the crash have revealed that Torund had just left his friends at a resort along the highway and was heading towards San Ignacio when he lost control of the car which flipped several times.
Meanwhile a sports day sponsored by the Salvation Army in Georgeville was marred by a traffic accident involving a young boy. Cameraman Kent Pandy was on the scene minutes after the accident and accompanied the eleven year old victim to the hospital. According to police, the driver of the pickup truck, John Guenther of Spanish Lookout, has reported that he was heading towards San Ignacio when the child suddenly darted into the road. That account is similar to what Colwin Nicholas witnessed.
