Robbers take $10,000 in gas station holdup
Gas stations are always a popular target of robbers, and on Monday morning it was the turn of R.B.’s Texaco at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Cemetery Road. Two thieves caught the owner, Renan Briceño, and one of his employees, John Conorquie, just as they exited the office and were about to load two bags of cash into a vehicle for a run to the bank. While no one was hurt in the hold-up, the mid-morning heist did yield a sizeable catch for the culprits. Briceño says he believes the robbers had been stalking him and were just biding their time until the right moment arrived.

“Actually they were on the tree apparently waiting. I came and I was about to take the deposit to the bank when I saw two guys of dark complexion walking towards the vehicle I sensed it. After being twenty years here in southside … instinct yeah. I managed to walk back but one of my employees had already put the money in the vehicle and he couldn’t take it out in time. The guys caught up with him, placed a gun on him and took away the money. That’s what happened.”

“So you say you felt it. You saw these guys in the tree waiting?”
Renan Briceño
“Yeah I saw them from the minute I saw the guy coming up, the one with the blue shirt and a white cap coming and when he realised that I was staring at him, he pulled down his cap. That’s when I realised that these guys are coming to do something. This is the first time it happened here. I lost over ten thousand dollars. Usually we have minor incidents, a hundred dollars, fifty dollars.”
After the robbery the men got into a blue taxi and headed down Cemetery Road towards Lakeview Street. Police later intercepted that vehicle at the corner of Rio Bravo Crescent and Faber’s Road Extension. Interestingly, behind the wheel was Jermaine Trapp, a former employee of the same gas station. While a search of the vehicle unearthed nothing, police are now looking for Kevin Sutherland, also known as Kevin Bailey and a third man they feel can assist in the investigation. Cops are reviewing security video tapes that might help them solve the case.
