Succotz Marching Band wins Band Fest back to back …

On Saturday afternoon Orange Walk town was a blaze of colour and steeped in music as marching bands and drum corps from across the country gathered to participate in Band Fest 2008. In all, ten schools lined up for a parade through the streets to compete in two categories: wind instruments and drums. Here are highlights of the event.

In the end, reigning champions, the Succotz Festival Drum Corps, was declared the overall winner, walking away with the scepter, twenty-five hundred dollars in cash and trophies. The Succotz crew also claimed top honours in the wind instrument division, beating the Mount Carmel Marching band and Tropical Sensations of Anglican Cathedral College. In the drum division, Orange Walk Central Drum Corps beat out Orange Walk Uprising and Holy Redeemer of Belize City. This is the third annual Band Fest organised by Love FM. The Succotz Festival Drum Corps will participate in an international competition later this year.
