CitCo apologises to driver they tried to arrest

Story PictureOn Friday, he was the irate Belize City driver claiming victimization by the City Council and the Police Department. But today Orlando Pelayo is a much happier man because this afternoon, the Belize City authorities said sorry to the aggrieved motorist. The release states that the City Council “apologises for any undue suffering” and reassures the public that steps are being taken to guard against any reoccurrence of such incidents and that disciplinary action will be taken against the person or persons responsible for the error”. Around five on Friday morning, police and officials from the City Council attempted to arrest Pelayo at his Lizarraga Street home on the strength of a bench warrant issued for a parking ticket. But while the license plate numbers on the ticket are registered to Pelayo, the vehicle’s description is completely different. The City Council has yet to publicize how the error took place. This afternoon Pelayo told us he is no longer considering legal action against the City Council but will file a suit against the Police Department if they do not apologise to him by the end of the week.
