Suspect charged in jacking of soldier

They patrol with police to protect our streets but on Saturday night an off duty Belize Defence Force solider was beaten and robbed by two assailants. According to Refino Pop, he left Price Barracks around one on Saturday morning on foot in the direction of a local bar but as he neared the gas station at mile nine, Pop says two men jumped him, beat him and stole his cell phone and wallet. Investigations into the incident have resulted in the arrest of twenty-seven year old Deon Ciego. Police say when they searched Ciego, they found Pop’s bank card in his possession. This morning the accused appeared in Magistrate’s Court where he was formally charged with Robbery and Wounding. Ciego pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Sharon Fraser has remanded him to Hattieville Prison until May fifteenth. The second suspect in the attack is still at large.
