Amendments to constitution approved by Cabinet
While a minister of state was questioning the rule of law in Crooked Tree, in Belmopan Cabinet was meeting to approve a number of constitutional amendments. Among the measures to be proposed at next Friday’s meeting of the House are a three term limit for the Prime Minister, recall mechanism for elected representatives, enhanced referendum process, enlargement of the Senate to create a non-government majority along with increased powers for that appointed body, and strengthening of the Freedom of Information Act. The government press release also announced that the Ministry of Economic Development has established a Consumer Protection Hotline and hired staff to monitor and enforce price controls. With regard to the recently increased price of flour, we have yet to be informed precisely what that control price is.
