Brown Sugar files for contempt in wall case
Today attorney for Brown Sugar Marketplace, Fred Lumor, began the first step of a civil suit against the Fort Street Tourism Village for what they allege is contempt of court. This is after last month’s ruling by Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh ordering the removal of the walls separating the Brown Sugar Marketplace and Habourview businesses from the boardwalk along the Haulover Creek. The removal was to take place within fourteen days of the ruling, however, more than a month later, there’s been little if any movement toward that end. Late this evening, General Manager of Brown Sugar, Christian Riveroll, told News Five that all that was done over the weekend was the removal of louvers from windows of an adjacent building that has also been ordered removed. Lumor has served the General Manager of the Fort Street Tourism Village, James Nisbet, and Port Commissioner, Major Lloyd Jones, with notices of their intention to sue.
