Four men injured in separate weekend shootings

The weekend’s second shooting was a ride-by on one of the old capital’s busiest streets. According to police, twenty-six year old Maurice Slusher, his brother John and fifteen year old Akeem Smith were hanging out at the corner of Mahogany and Sarstoon Streets with friends around eight on Saturday night when a man wearing a warm cap rode up to them and started shooting. John Slusher was critically wounded in the left shoulder. One of the bullets hit Maurice in the upper left arm while Smith was injured in the left leg and thumb. John remains admitted to ward tonight but both Maurice Slusher and Smith are out of the hospital. Up to news time tonight, the suspected gunman had yet to be detained.

Two days after a teenaged defendant walked away from a murder charge, someone tried to kill him. Last Wednesday, eighteen year old John Chessman was acquitted of the June 2005 murder of twenty year old Mara Noemi Garcia. But around three on Friday afternoon on Mahogany Street, a lone gunman took aim at Chessman, shooting him in the abdomen. Police investigations into the incident have led to the arrest of nineteen year old Osmond Mitchell. Mitchell appeared in court today where he was charged with Attempted Murder and remanded to Hattieville Prison until April twenty-second. The victim is listed in stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
