U.S. resident of San Pedro sought by Colorado cops

Story PictureIt happens more often than you think and is usually handled quietly, but every now and then the case of a U.S. spouse illegally running off to Belize with the children goes public. And that’s what’s playing out this week in San Pedro Town. The Douglas County Sheriffs office of Colorado has issued a warrant for the arrest of thirty-nine year old U.S. citizen Tamara Peterson, who is wanted on three felony counts involving Violation of a Custody Order. Peterson, who has two formers husbands and three children between them, is accused of kidnapping the children over whom she does not have legal custody. On Tuesday police picked up Peterson and the children in San Pedro and escorted them to the Belize City police station. A source close to the investigation told News Five that police called in the Human Services Department in whose care the children remain. Peterson was released from police custody a few hours later, leaving cops to continue their investigation into the matter. Peterson’s two husbands were in Belize to see if they could get back the children but their efforts proved unsuccessful as Peterson is said to have assembled a strong legal team and has the support of some prominent San Pedranos. Troy Edgar, her second husband, left Belize this morning while Blake Peterson, her first husband, left Belize yesterday. Tamara Peterson found a safe haven on the island of Ambergris Caye almost two years ago and is said to have become an active community minded resident. Typically cases like this would end quickly with the Minister of National Security issuing an expulsion order, sending the wanted person back to the States on the next available flight.
