Suspect denied bail after beating girlfriend
Roy Pitter, a thirty-seven year old labourer who lives on a street of the same name, was today remanded to prison until May second, having been charged with Wounding, Using Threatening Words and Aggravated Assault. Reports are that on April eighth Pitter beat up his twenty-three year old common-law wife Lucretia Belgrave and threatened to kill her. He pleaded guilty to Wounding and not guilty to the other charges. Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb fined him six hundred dollars for wounding or in default he’ll spend three months in prison. Besides having to pay the court the six hundred, Pitter owed an additional twelve thousand dollars for past drug trafficking convictions. Belgrave, a mother of five children, told the court that Pitter punched her in the face causing a cut over the left eye and he later threatened to kill her. As if that weren’t bad enough he allegedly hid in her bedroom and put a knife to her throat. She reported that she struggled to save her life and managed to get away by biting him on the hand.
