Suspects questioned for Valley of Peace Double Murder

Story PictureBelmopan police say they have a lead in connection with Saturday morning’s double slayings in the Valley of Peace community in the west. While they would not say who they’re looking for or his connection to the victims, cops told News Five today that they are questioning several persons who might be able to help them locate the main suspect. In the early morning brutal slaying, forty-nine year old Miguel Mendoza and his helper, thirty-six year old Luis Medina lost their lives. Both men were apparently asleep at Mendoza’s small wooden home on Calle Sinley in Valley of Peace when they were hacked to death. Police have not recovered the murder weapon, but they believe a machete was used to murder the two farmers. Medina’s family was busy on Tuesday with funeral arrangements but we spoke by phone with his sister, Norma Medina, from their home in Santa Elena today. She says Luis had just left her house the day before and she feels he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

“On Saturday morning, he was supposed to go and finish a job over in valley of peace and he said that his boss was going to pick him up by Mike place because his boss knows Mike’s house. So, my brother decided to stay over Mike’s house the night so the next day in the morning he would go from work from there. But he didn’t made it because a coward has taken his life in his sleep because my brother didn’t move the way accommodated himself to bed, the same way he wake up. He was lying that morning when I went there and identified his body. So the coward who did it, I would like to tell him that show up and hand him self to the police because he will not get away with this murder.”

We could not verify if the suspect is a Belizean or otherwise.
