Samples from Albert Street fire sent to U.S. lab
Nine days after fire destroyed half a city block in the heart of the commercial capital, the cause of the blaze has yet to be determined. According to Fire Chief Henry Baizar, while investigations at the scene have been completed, the department is now in the process of sending several samples including ash, pieces of wood and cardboard from different areas of the Romac’s building, where the fire started, to a lab in the United States. Results of tests conducted on the samples will tell investigators if any accelerant is present on the materials. Baizar says those findings should be ready within ten days. On March twenty-sixth, fire gutted five buildings on Albert Street, left four families homeless and caused millions of dollars in property damage.
