James Adderley has the latest in sporting news

Good Evening, I’m James Adderley. This is Sports Monday.

Week two in the BPFL brought the internecine struggle between FC Belize and the Belize Defense Force at the MCC Grounds yesterday. It’s FC Belize that looks to strike early off the set piece triggered by Orland Lyons that leads to a leader from mark Leslie. FC Belize continues to search for the goal off this spot kick that is dealt to Mark Leslie and for sure he should have done better with this chance. Nevertheless, the B.D.F. does get the best at goal on this press only to see Evan Marian miss the target from close range. Now check out this spot kick – it finds #15 Jeremy James but the ball bounces harmlessly off his body to be cleared by the B.D.F. defense. Meanwhile this set piece goes to Deon McCauley whose header just inches outside the sticks. At the half we have a scoreless ballgame.
Immediately into the resumption of play James set up Cristobal Gilharry who forces Woodrow West into a finger tip save. We’re 64 minutes into the ballgame when Woodrow West misplays this ball; Ian Gaynair moves in and smacks it home to grab a 1-zip lead. It’s another corner kick for FC Belize Jerome Archer is the first to react but the ball crashed in to the horizontal bar. Folks, the truth is, this was not a well played ballgame as FC Belize hops on to the 1-zip. In the other action around Belize, we have Hankook Verdes handed San Pedro Dolphins a 3-zip defeat out west while Vizlee Corojax blanked Wagiya 2-nil.
Nighee continues to lead this league with 9 points. Hankook Verdes scores 8, both FC Belize and Wagiya have 6 points apiece while to B.D.F. and San Pedro has amassed 1 point each.
Turning to the Belize Bank Super League we head to Mile 17 where Hattieville FC hosted San Felipe Barcelona in week 7 of the 2009 tournament. And we’re certain folks that you’ve noticed that the soggy condition of the Hattieville field is certainly not conducive to the best of football play today. Nevertheless we’re only 5 minutes in when Ralph Staine centers into the danger zone, Ronny Gonzalez winds up with possession and his left foot swing gives the home team a 1-zip lead. San Felipe looks to respond 10 minutes later when Thedran Reid is freed up but gets let down by an errant first bench. We’re 26 minutes in when Maurice Francis launches this set piece at goal and his drop is perfect to give Hattieville FC a 2-zip lead. In the meantime Kenny Witgil get this open look to get Barcelona on to the scoreboard but he tardies long enough for good defense to negate his effort. Again San Felipe get a chance to pull one back but under the field condition Christopher Hendricks cannot catch up with the pill. In this press Christopher Hendricks tries to fool the referee with this hand play – he does not but neither does he receive the deserved yellow card. Folks were some 13 minutes into the 2nd half when Oscar Ascendo tries to send this loose ball into the danger zone – Ronny Gonzales hands the ball for which a penalty kick is issued. San Felipe sends for Harvey Cruz who sends the keeper the wrong way as team Barcelona pulls one back from the penalty spot at the 58th minute. However 2 minutes later goal keeper Darrel Novelo fails to clear this shot from Maurice Gremcis, the ball reaches Richard Usher and Hattieville makes it a 3-1 lead.
Chalk up a 2nd goal for Maurice Francis in this one when he outs this ball into the V with his left and Hattieville rolls to 4-1 lead. A minute later which center from Hugh Dyer finds Richard Usher who taps it past the keeper to give Hattieville a commencing 5-1 lead. Folks it’s been sometime since we’ve seen a perfect corner kick but somehow Oscar Ascendo put enough on this right foot to get it into the back of the net to make it a 5-2 score. Now match John Smith gives up an unnecessary penalty to Christopher Hendricks for which he does attract the yellow card. Again San Felipe Barcelona sends for Harvey Cruz and again he does not disappoint as the score is now 5-3 at the 80th minute. The visitor do possess the momentum now so Christopher Hendricks splices at goal, the keeper mishandles but the striker fails to capitalize on his 2nd opportunity. San Felipe needs goals so Harvey Cruz strikes this center to Christopher Hendricks who butches the scoring chance. We’re at the 87th minute when Cruz finds Hector Martinez with this center and his header makes it a 5-4 ballgame. However Hattieville manages to hangs on to grab the 5-4 big win in a crucial outing.
In other action around the league kraal Road stopped San Pedro Islanders 2-1, Valley Renaissance riuted Cayo South 4 to 1, Texmar handed Santa Elena Synergy a 3-1 pitch while Placencia Assassin and paradise Freedom Fighter battled to a 1 all statement. Looking ahead week 8 brings 5 matches – On Saturday Texmar will host Kraal Rd whole on Sunday San Felipe hosts San Pedro, Cayo South travels to Hattieville, Valley Renaissance gets a visit from Placencia Assassin and paradise Freedom Fighters will be at home against Santa Elena Synergy. Finally folks, the Belize Billiards Sports Federation presents an open nine ball three-man team tournament on October fourth on Viking Club on Vernon Street. It kicks off at ten a.m. and first prize pays a thousand dollars. I know you don’t want to miss it. That’s it for now though. We invite you back same time same place next week. Jah Overall. I’m James Adderley.
