B.T.L. issues new directory with tribute to Andy P.
Today B.T.L. introduced its 2008 telephone directory, the first for the company since changing its name to Belize Telemedia Limited. According to Directory Services Manager Suzette Tillett, they’ve added several new features to the book to make it more attractive and user friendly. But what may make the over fifty thousand copies of the directory disappear faster than usual is that this year’s cover features the late Andy Palacio.

“We had asked Andy and Mr. Duran before Andy’s passing and we just carried on with this since then and we know that it is something that Belizeans will appreciate. There are several things that we have done to add to this book. We’ve used a new paper, which is a more magazine type paper, so you will notice the book might appear thinner. It’s actually more pages, but it appears a bit thinner because it’s a better quality paper. It’s more colourful. We’ve also added to the front part of the book, the information section where we have added a safety and security feature on all our safety and security areas, our fire department, police department, B.D.F., things that people may not realise exist and know a little history about.”
The new features did not end there as this afternoon B.T.L. announced that the directory will also be available in two other formats.

“We are also introducing a midi book this year for our post paid cellular customers. We have long been asked by them to have some sort of book that they can carry in their cars, carry around with them and we’ve answered that, so we are introducing this new midi book. It’s smaller. I hope customers will appreciate that. The words will be smaller because it’s smaller. It’s basically shrinking the existing book to half its size.”
“Later on this month, our directory will be online, meaning that it will be an e-directory where customers will be able to query and search just as the book itself. It will have the yellow pages, all the ads in the yellow ages. So it’s gonna be a really exciting month for us.”
The midi directory will be available later this week. To get yours, present a copy of your phone bill or an ID card to the nearest B.T.L. office.
