Three accused robbers remanded to prison
While police try to track down the thieves of Tuesday’s heist, today the justice system started proceedings against two others. Since March sixteenth, eighteen year old Cardinal Welch Myvette has been admitted to the K.H.M.H. recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg, but today he was well enough to face the music for his role in the robbery of Galaxy Store in Belama Phase Two. This morning Myvette appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb where he pled not guilty to two counts each of Robbery, Aggravated Robbery, and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. He was denied bail and remanded into custody until April third. Police believe that Myvette was one of four men involved in the hold up of store owner, Guihe Denge on March fifteenth. During the incident the youths stole a cell phone, a wallet with a hundred and fifty dollars in cash, four hundred bucks from the register, and another four hundred dollars worth of telephone cards. As they were making their escape, however, the men ran right into a customer, Ali Safa and one the robbers fired several shots at him. Upon returning fire, Safa managed to hit one of the men. The following day police discovered Myvette during a search of the bushes behind the Biltmore Plaza. Four days later, they also picked up Deon Lord and Clifton Flores and charged them in connection with the incident. Police say they are currently looking for the fourth suspect.
Another case processed today was that of twenty-three year old Charles West and his brother, twenty-four year old Nigel West. The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge of Robbery, but were denied bail on account of their five previous convictions. This latest incident is based on a report by security guard Addington Ramos, who told police that around three on the afternoon of March twelfth he was held up by two men. According to Ramos, he was walking on Fairweather Street towards Mex Avenue when a man approached him and asked for a dollar. Ramos said when he reached into his pocket to take out the money, the man then demanded his gold ring. When he resisted, Ramos says the other man gestured as if he had a gun in his pants waist, prompting him to hand over the six hundred dollar ring. The brothers are to re-appear in court on April ninth.
