Baileys honoured as regional Unsung Heroes
For the fourth time in six years it was a Belizean who walked up to the podium in Bridgetown Barbados to receive the Unsung Heroes award from FirstCaribbean International Bank. On Monday the husband and wife team of Lyndon and Laverne Bailey were honoured for their remarkable record of community service in establishing the Tubal Trade and Vocational Institute in Ladyville. In addition to a trophy and special gifts, the Baileys also received seven thousand, five hundred U.S. dollars to advance the institute’s work. Making the presentation at the Barbados Hilton was FirstCaribbean C.E.O. Charles Pink. Belizeans who have won the regional competition in previous years are educator Gloria Edwards, Nurse Margaret Juan and women’s advocate Florence Dillett. The 2008 campaign to find the Caribbean’s top Unsung Heroes kicks off April.
