Shooting victim lucky to be alive

Story PictureToday there was a shooting but its victim was lucky to escape death. Twenty-two year old Delroy Matura underwent surgery this afternoon after he was shot several times this morning on Neal’s Pen Road. His cousin, who did not want to appear on camera, told us what she knows of the attack. Police said they know who they’re looking for.

“I mi deh home. We hear the gunshot this morning. My boyfriend ask me if I hear that but I couldn’t believe dah gunshot I think dah something di bang, somebody di bang something. And then I neva really pay it no mind and I continue di do weh I do, i di get ready fi go da Mr. Boots Martinez office this morning but I baby-sit my lee niece and di wait fi she. And then couple minutes after boyfriend gone da di shop and then he come back and seh that somebody get shot but we still yet neva know dah who. And then my son come and tell we dat they shot up “Fang” because we call ah Fang right. We run out deh and somebody mi done, wah man—wah angel, I wah call ah wah angel because if dah neva sake ah he ih mi wah dead. So I call wah angel, he pick ah up and carry ah day hospital. We meet eena the hospital, he come back come check and he like, weh I find out from he is that when time they done shot ah ih crawl, ih crawl underneath was house bottom ih mi di fight fi ih life and ih seems like they mi corner ah because when ih mi couldn’t reach ih end up right back into the gunman them again and they shot up ah again.”

“The motive it would seem for the Matura shooting would be an old problem, an old beef. So it is obvious to the investigators, initial reports are that the two persons went directly to where the gentleman was standing and fired several shots at him.”

While police seek to curb the rise in criminal activity in the city, they are also trying to close in on Gregory Casildo, who is wanted for two murders in Placencia within the last month and who is believed to still be in that area.
